good writing. and I hv one sepcial problem for this UPS system,
actually, diffrent customer has different process. so, theoretically, the service provider need develop different system to meet such individual requriment . But Normally it is really costly and system development is also a big risk(to assure the system always within the burget and roll out on time) So I am very interesed the point you hv mentioned:

Take the visiblity solution as example, how you customize it for differnet requirment.such as: if two company hv different booking process and need different type confirmation, if one of them need yr scan service but another just scan by themselves and sent ASN to you, if client only just outsource the warehouse business. many many such exceptional business case would hv. So I fully agree that this customize should be on process level...BUT, very difficult....
