The largest DW database is Yahoo! -- 100TB running Oracle on Fujitsu/EMC. DB2 is a big winer on Mainframe.

We use Teradata for data warehousing.  Initially tried a couple of years with db2  triple E, bu it didn't work out. Then moved to NCR Teradata. It seems Teradata stands on top from performance perspective for large DW databases.

The main drawbacks to Teradata are that fewer people are familiar with it.  There are only around 10 Teradata customers in Canada.  It should be much better in States.

今后要是做数据迁移会比较麻烦。
Teradata 的硬件架构也是ibm power5

银行的数据库系统大多是DB2，主要是历史原因造成的， 并不能说明什么问题。
好多银行还在使用Infomix呢， 结果呢Infomix已经被淘汰出局了。

Teradata是公认的最强的data warehouse, 属于TB级别的
DB2, Oracle还只是GB级的， 有一定差距。

Don't really agree:

wth the latest release, DB2, Oracle or Sybase IQ, either of them should be capable of handling a dw database with size of a couple of dozen TB.  

we implemented teradata for dw when Oracle8i was just released.  Since 9i, Oracle has made huge improvements on OLAP. 10g is even better.

even some of my  Oracle OLTP databases are several TB.  They all run very smoothly.

That was then, it is now.

One of biggest advantage db2 over Oracle is licensing cost: IBM sells db2 bundled with hardware.  You almost pay nothing on db2 license if you have enterprise group discount deal.  For Oracle, the cost is way much higher.

db2只有400版本是免费的,其他平台上都是要收钱的,客户选择db2,决不是你所认为的免费,oracle有大机版本,可惜没有任何客户敢用
