"产品短缺时间并不长,主要是因为周边居民的抢购导致沃尔玛供货不及。然而,自国庆节后,沃尔玛上海店缺货商品不仅品种多,而且缺货时间长,部分商品缺货已长达一周。“抱歉!本商品暂时缺货。”19日,沃尔玛上海店的货架上出现了近30处这样的标牌。"

To me, it is acceptable for a new store. "抢购" means UNEXPECTED high volume of sales, it is very normal to be OOS(Out Of Stock). Safe inventory can not cover surge. Who will make safe inventory to "peak volume"? How much cost will it take if so?
"部分商品缺货已长达一周": most of replenishment cycle is one week, twice a week is already exceptional. It is acceptable, too. But it seems Wal*Mart's marketing is not very good, they can do something much more better when it is OOS. Normally, the OOS goods are most profitable, it impacts a lot.
China's situation is very different from US/Canada/Europe. China has too many SMALL logistic companies, too many obstacle among cities, providences. (For example, 80% of the products of one big manufacture are sold by Wal*Mart in US. But it is less than 5% in China because China has distributors, retailers...)
So in short, Wal*Mart's logistics is already very good in China. But their marketing/sales do have a lot of things to do when it is OOS. |
