Reasons:

Main Goal:
Decrease OOS (Out of Stock) and inventory.
-Low OOS make more profits for retailers and manufacturers.
-Low Inventory decrease logistic cost for both sides.

Why VMI, is it fine that just let sales/store managers to place order by their minds?
1. Most sales places order by guess, not on real sales data.
2. Manufacturer can see retailers' inventory and ship goods to retailers directly, keep much less time delay.
3. Decrease "Bullwipe effect."

And there is one very big advantage in implementing VMI:
  Muti - Function experts from manufacturers help re-engendering your whole business process.  That is because VMI relates to ENTIRE business process, once you need to implement VMI, you need to make sure your business process is efficient and good.

"Trust" is the 1st thing before VMI.  If suppliers provide unqualified goods, you might need to find ohter suppliers.
