Back to my original question. Can anybody tell me what those error descriptions translate "latch" into? Actually, all I'd like to have is a Chinese - English translation of keywords, or a Chinese version of glossary or Master Index.

Indeed reading English documentation is better unless your English is so difficult to you that you spend more time on the language than on the technical aspect of it. But knowing Chinese translation of keywords is helpful when laymen ask you a question.

oracle从9i开始，书面文档都要花钱买了。
偶看英文的文档最好是打印出来的，电子版的实在看不下去

是的,先读点中文的,懂一点,也就有了兴趣
其次,读英文的,就可以适当地理解和猜测了

There's nothing special about English in science (including computer technology). Just read more and practice in your own database. In 1997, I spent 2 months trying to read the Oracle documentation Concept manual (version 7.3). I didn't really get it because I didn't have enough experience. In 1999, I spent another 3 months reading it (version 8.0.5). This time I tried to understand every detail and improved my Oracle skills and English skills a lot. I still remember those days I closed the door in my room reading the printed pages 1 to 2 hours every day.

As people taking GRE Subject tests agree, the real difficulty in those tests is not in English, but the Subject, chemistry, computer science, etc. In a nutshell, if you have difficulty understanding Oracle manuals in English, most likely you need to improve your Oracle skills, not English.
