We have lots of standby databases but never implement Data Guard Broker. The added layer of complexity that comes with its functionality is not worth it. We never need automatic failover/switchover anyway. We believe, if the primary site is so unusable, human intervention is absolutely needed. We'd rather do manual failover/switchover if the primary can't be brought online for the users.
I have two scripts that monitor the data guard environment:

one installed on the primary and the other on the standby. They're independent and serve different purposes.
We evaluated GoldenGate. It works as expected. But it's way too expensive, even after heavy discount. I think Oracle could make more money overall if the price were lower. |
