The New Baiyun International Airport near Guangzhou, is due to go into operation on 08 Jul, 2004.

The new airport, designed by Parsons Corp and URS Grenier Corp. both of United States and together with Guangdong Provincial Architectural Design Institute, is capable of handling the world’s largest planes, such as Boeing 747s.The new airport will ultimately be built-out to 700,000 square meters and it is important to the city as it will help to make the area an even more attractive site for foreign investment.

Upon arrival at the airport via city freeway, they can choose from either a North or South curbside next to the main terminal building. A “smart” departure areas has been created in which passengers are able to view departure flight check-in information on each side of the building and thus they will know exactly where to alight from the vehicle.

Passengers will then enter a massive central ticketing area (45,000 square meters with 168 terminals – level two of the terminal building), which is about 60 meters away from the drop off area outside. By centralizing the ticketing function, the airport authorities rather than individual airline will be responsible for the departing passengers and this will minimize the waiting time for check in procedures. Once passengers pay the airport departure tax , they will cross an elevated road bridge then enter the security check area and thus the holding area for departing flights.

   从广州飞往世界各地的旅客可以直上二楼办票大厅。进入航站楼办票厅，办票
大厅非常宽敞，双向15根柱子将地面与天顶相连接，柱子和顶盖都采用白色的材
料，使室内的空间显得广阔，非常大气。迎面而来的是一幅巨大的航站楼内部功能
示意图.如果你是第一次到新机场来，那么就要留意一下这幅示意图了。

   步行不过70米后，你就会看到一圈呈环状布置的“银色长龙”，这些就是换登机
牌的值机柜台。_168个值机柜台，任何值机柜台都可办理去国内或国外任意目的地
的航班手续，_新机场的设计吸取现代国外大型机场设计营运的经验，以集中处
理、分散候机为办票厅的设计理念，168个值机柜台在办票厅中央呈环状布置。由
于新机场安装了最先进的信息系统，所有航班和旅客的信息都在一个信息平台上运
行，因此旅客再不需像以往一样到固定的柜台办理票务，而是可以选择其中任意一
个柜台，办理去任意目的地的登机手续。工作人员只需拿卡轻轻往电脑中一插，所
有信息都可显示出来，整个办理票务的过程只需几秒钟，因此旅客再也无须忍受排
队等候之苦。

一般旅客的行李分为随身行李和托运行李两种，头等舱旅客可随身携带两件手提行
李，公务、普通舱旅客只准随身携带一件手提行李。体积不超过20×40×55厘米，重
量不得超过5公斤，超过上述标准就要办理托运。
