I can't agree more on that. In the past five to seven years, Chinese IT professionals have improved a lot. I worked in Shanghai for a little over one year from 2006 to 2007. Many of my coworkers there know Oracle better than most of the DBAs I know in America. Young age offers you a fantastic edge. While many DBA managers in the US still rely on the number of years of IT experience to decide on hiring or not hiring, the Chinese managers go straight to technical interview regardless claimed experience. It would be a miracle if some sweet talking but incompetent guy could survive in such an environment. The IT industry in the US reminds me of the years when China started to privatize factories, with a lot of headache on taking care of aged and retiring workers. The IT in China, on the other hand, is like what happened to the IT in the US 10 years ago: young workers, unmarried or married with no children, spend days and nights studying technology. It would be another miracle if the overall skill level would not go up.
