I can't remember it clearly, just some errors about Java.

If only for study purpose, sure can install the 9iAS without the patches, just choose the Mininal Edition, install two parts: HTTP server & Portal.

    我想掌握使用Oracle进行网络数据发布的有关技术，所以选择了Oracle 8i(v8.1.7)+ Oracle 9i AS的实践环境。我现在已经在机器（PC机：AMD 750 /512M /70G /Windows 2000 Server Sp1）上成功安装了8i，但接着安装9i AS的时候失败（可以安装完，但中间有出错信息提示，好像是关于java的；而且我又只能将两个软件安装到一台机器上，只有这一台）。我在安装过程中是按照Oracle公司的一篇文档操作的（因为对Oracle还不熟悉，只能按着文档一步一步做，具体为什么并不是十分清楚，请不要见笑），其中要求使用我前面提到的两个补丁，但至今为止尚未找到，所以怀疑出错与此有关。不知道你的成功安装是什么样的具体过程，有没有什么需要特别注意的细节，我到metalink上看过好像许多人都说不太好安装。另外不知道Oracle的补丁是否也是新版本包括了旧版本的所有功能，用p1882450是否可以起到同样的作用？实践过么？请原谅我的谨慎，实在是安装一次太耗费精力了。

It's quite useful for me, I almost follow it to install.
But two things need notice:
1. choose the minimal edition.
2. use the 8172 patch instead of the 2 patches.

BTW, here has a suggestion for you, it's very easy to integrate Oracle8.1.6 & Oracle9iAS, I used it before I came to 8.1.7.
(but recently, I only choose limited option to develop my website, maybe later will implement security & cache issue)

Coz can't find the way to download the 2 patches.
