You're both correct. I tested this in 10g. The dispatcher's port is some random high number when I don't specify it.

Once the dispatcher is up, as long as it doesn't shutdown, the port number stays unchanged. But of course that won't help with firewall configuration, which requires prior knowledge of the port number.

我记得在windows上，在防火墙上开通1521 端口，oracle 10g 是可以的， 如果是9i 则需要修改注册表USE_SHARED_SOCKET=TURE .

Therefore, the setting of USE_SHARED_SOCKET is not required."
